Compguy11 Custom Modifications Announces Plans for IPB 3.0

May 26, 2009 - As Invision Power Services, Inc. nears the completion of Invision Power Board 3.0, Compguy11 Custom Modifications has been anticipating its release with plans to continue to upgrade its most popular modification, Member Teams. Compguy11 Custom Modifications plans to begin development of the next version of Member Teams (tentatively dubbed "v2.0") once Invision Power Services releases their final product. Although it is unknown when exactly this will be, it can be expected that development will begin in the month of June. Development will continue through the months of July and August, and depending on the current workload of our developers, may be released at the end of August. It is important to note that this is simply a goal, not a guarantee. The 3.0 version of Invision Power Board is considered an entire overhaul of their software. All modifications will need to be re-written and optimized to take advantage of the new features IPS is offering.

Compguy11 Custom Modifications has been tracking and collecting feature suggestions for the next version. Among other things, an extension of the "team logo" concept, rankings for team leaders, better permission and privacy systems, and an in-depth analysis of the current logic used by certain functions within Member Teams is expected. Although other features are on the list, the exact feature list will remain confidential until it reaches the hands of beta testers. If you have a feature suggestion, please reply to this topic with it. Even if you believe you have already suggested it, please post it to ensure it makes the list. Once development has started, and the features are chosen, no new features will be added to this release.

As we conclude this press release, Compguy11 Custom Modifications wants to extend its thanks to the entire Internet community for supporting us for the past five years. It is because of your continued support, praise, and patience that we are able to develop this modification that is so crucial to the operation of many Internet forums.

-- END --

--Addendum--

September 21, 2009 - Despite the delay from IPS releasing public developer documentation, development for the next version of Member Teams will finally begin in a few days. Do not expect any of the timeframes set out in this announcement to be met. Development updates will be given.

--END--

I am a person who relies completely on your mod to anticipate upgrade, for my site, we are hoping for a release of January 2010 for the new site, (ipb3).

At this point, im inquiring on the status of upgrading the member teams mod. This is essential for the upgrade of my forums, i can replicate every other mod myself, but the code in member teams is too much for me to take on.

Its been a while, and im not requesting any new features, but am wondering on the status of the new mod

thanks

chris

Development has not yet started as I was really hoping to be able to develop with the final version of IPB3 instead of a release candidate, but considering that IPS seems to be taking more time than I personally expected, I might start development within the next week or so. You can be assured that MT will be upgraded by January of 2010 though, if that helps you with your planning.

Sorry I can't get more specific on development.

Feature requests...

  • Age restrictions
    • If their profiles d.o.b. isn't set then they get prompted for their date of birth.
    • The d.o.b. needs to be saved in the MT database to prevent someone from trying to change their age constantly.
    • Options for when the board d.o.b. is different from the MT database:
      • ACP: If board age is under 18 and MT age is 18+, forbid access or require approval from admin or group leader [can be disabled for localities that don't have age issues]
      • ACP: If age is updated # of times, lock out access to MT until an admin or MT moderator unlocks it. This would only apply to age restricted teams

    • Restrict access to MT, joining groups or creating gorups based on age as well.

  • Gender restrictions (so a team can be male or female only). Member should not be able to change their gender once it's set. A team leader can over ride the setting by inviting a member to join.
  • MT moderators. Per ACP restrictions, can control various functions of MT moderation. Change team leader, co-leader, add/remove members from a team, restrict a member from using MT, lock a group (disables the group until it is unlocked), delete a group, add/edit/delete team announcements, etc.
  • Ability to specify permissions by rank (if any additional access is given to a rank other than a rank name, then they are considered to be a team manager/staff member).
  • Collaboration abilities among team leaders/coleaders/managers/etc. Sort of like a private memo board. Not a complete messaging system. More like a shoutbox but only visible to the 'staff' of that group and of course to moderators of MT and those with ACP access to the MT options.
  • Logging ability, with logs access limited to the team leader, MT mods and ACP admins. ** There should be multiple fields, so if a team leader deletes the logs, it only deletes the logs from their view. The same logs should still be available to the MT mods and ACP admins. It would use the same log entry but flags for who can see the logs. This is to conserve space while preventing a team leader from 'erasing' someones tracks or activities.
  • ACP settings for team leaders.. Team leaders can allow non members to have: No access. Forum view access. Reading access. Full access.
  • Have a team "home page", with movable blocks, background image, team avatar/icon. Also have a private page for members only.
  • Team calendars. Team leaders can control who can see the calendars.

I'll post more if I think of more, but that's it for now.

I second all these suggestions. I'd most deff love to see:
  • Age Restriction Ability
  • Team Homepage with blocks + Private Page
  • MT Moderators.
  • Settings for team leaders (ACLS)

And as always, integration with a points system. (SuperSmashBrothers' mod is lovely)!

Sorry if this is annoying but any idea on a rough estimate for the release of this mod? Like someone above, my IPB upgrade to 3.0 kind of depends on this mod being upgraded, so it would be really helpful to have some kind of date in mind.

I really wish I could give you a date. Unfortunately, I have a lot going on in my schedule, and if I gave you a date and then didn't make the date, I would feel extremely bad. Sorry.

(I'm going to close this topic because I think the matter has been well covered)
